Botox® and other Neuromodulators
Botox®, Dysport®, Juveau®, and Daxxify® are all excellent is a leading treatment for erasing and softening wrinkles and frown lines. They can be used to effectively improve the appearance of wrinkles and expression lines in a matter of weeks.
In addition, Botox® can be used for excessive sweating of the underarms or feet with the effects of treatments lasting up to 12 months and is an incredible treatment for temporomandibular joint syndrome (otherwise known as TMJ syndrome)
Botox® and other neuromodulators contain a protein that relaxes underlying muscles. Botox® works by blocking impulses from the nerves to the muscles that create expression lines.
Botox® injections have been used safely and effectively for over 15 years in treating many ophthalmological and neurological disorders, and more recently have been used to treat migraine headaches. Botox® is approved by the FDA as a safe and effective treatment for wrinkles and expression lines, but cannot immediately improve wrinkles due to aging and sun-damaged skin as it is not a filler. Over time, however, some of these wrinkles may resolve.

What To Expect At Your Visit
After carefully evaluating your concerns, the procedure, type of neuromodulator used, and possible side effects as well as an estimate will be discussed. Once an ideal treatment plan is developed, Dr. Mascia will inject a small amount of neuromodulator precisely into specific locations in the face, neck and/or lips through a tiny needle. The pain is minimal to none, and only a small amount of Botox or other toxin is required. You can resume normal activities immediately, but the muscle must be used actively in the first hour to maximize the effect. Temporary bruising is the most common side effect, which can easily be covered with makeup. See other potential side effects below.
Results
Botox® smooths out expression lines, giving your face a more youthful and calm appearance. The effects of Botox® may be visible in 5 to 7 days. Other neuromodulators can be even faster. Maximum benefits are reached between 10 to 14 days. Dr. Mascia tries to adjust the dose so that you achieve maximal outcomes with the least amount of neurotoxin, saving you money while maintaining natural results.
After treatment, the skin remains smooth and unwrinkled. The untreated facial muscles contract as usual, allowing your normal facial expression to be unaffected.
Dr. Mascia often asks for a brief follow up in 2 weeks to assess her treatment results.
The effects of Botox® usually lasts 3-4 months and then fade gradually. You will need to follow-up with treatments 2 to 4 times a year. Clinical studies show longer lasting effects after receiving multiple treatments over time. Below is a photo contribution from Allergan.
Side Effects Of Injectable Neuromodulator
Side effects of injectable neurotoxins are usually mild and temporary, and normal activities may be resumed immediately after receiving injections. Injection-site side effects include the following:
